Biography

Corey Legge plays heartfelt alt-country and rock, drawing influence from his wholesome upbringing amongst the fertile pastures surrounding Bega (NSW). Corey has released three albums in just over three years, ‘Driving out of Eden’ (2019), ‘Some Days’ (2020) and ‘What Now? (2022), landing him high rotation on ABC Country, and regular airplay on KIX Country, Double J and Triple J. Corey’s most popular single to date ‘I Don’t Know What I’ve Got Myself in For’ landed at #2 on the Australian Country Radio charts, which led to six film clips being added to CMT on Foxtel. Corey’s music has also been shared by the legendary James Taylor.

The recipient of a prestigious ‘Young Regional Artist Scholarship’ from Create NSW in 2018, Corey subsequently flew to New Zealand to record his debut solo album ‘Driving out of Eden’ and 2nd album ‘Some Days’ with award-winning producer Ben Edwards (Julia Jacklin, Marlon Williams). The ‘Some Days’ album title track was a semi-finalist in the 2020 International Songwriting Competition.

After having received funding from Create NSW for his 3rd studio album, Corey recently recorded with award-winning country producer Matt Fell at Love Hz Studios in Sydney. The 1st single ‘Cemetery Kids’ was released in late August 2021 along with a nostalgic 90’s style home video film clip, while 2nd single ‘Love You & Leave You’ was released on Friday 12th November 2021 and was premiered by Australian country icon Beccy Cole on ABC Country. ‘Love You & Leave You’ recently cracked the CountryTown ‘Hot 50’ chart alongside Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. The single has since been added to high rotation on ABC Country and the film clip has been added to rotation on CMT on Foxtel. Corey’s 3rd single ‘What Now?’ is out now, with the film clip set to shine a light on the amazing emergency services personnel who helped keep the community safe throughout the Black Summer Bushfires. Corey’s new album ‘What Now?’, which drops on 1st March 2022, is a concept album focussed on the stories that have emerged from the Black Summer Bushfires and the COVID-19 era.

In 2018 Corey Legge received a prestigious ‘Young Regional Artist Scholarship’ from CreateNSW (NSW government) and a music scholarship from the Yuin Folk Club. Corey subsequently flew to New Zealand to record his debut solo album ‘Driving out of Eden’ with award-winning producer Ben Edwards (Julia Jacklin, Marlon Williams). Released in February 2019, the album sparked considerable interest from a number of high profile radio stations and artists worldwide.

Some Days (2020)
Some Days, the second album Bega-born, Wollongong-based singer-songwriter from Corey Legge, poses a problem. A good problem, but a perplexing one for a person who’s trying to write about the album. So let’s just get it out of the way: the title song is so extraordinarily good that it takes on a life and identity of its own, almost to the point that the rest of the album should be considered separate to it. Because the fact of the matter is that the rest of the album is very, very good.

Driving Out Of Eden (2019)
There are nine songs on this album and they are all very, very good. Legge’s background is in folk and Americana, and that can be heard in the musical style. But no amount of lineage or influence, really, can determine how an artist is going to connect with their audience and the key to the beauty of this album – for this listener, at least – is in Legge’s voice.

This driving and punchy upbeat rock track is sure to make an impact on all those who experienced the tragic Black Summer Bushfires and the COVID era shortly after. With its surging lap steel slide guitar lines, catchy vocal melodies and thumping drum and bass grooves, this emotional song has a Paul Kelly flavour and will be stuck in your head for days.

Recorded and produced by multi award-winning country producer Matt Fell at Love Hz Studios in Sydney NSW Australia, this upbeat bitter-sweet ballad is one of the catchiest singles released by Legge so far. With its swirling pedal steel, catchy vocal melodies and smooth guitar licks reminiscent of the Eagles and John Mayer, this song will be stuck in your head for days.

I Don’t Know What I’ve Got Myself In For (released 15th December 2020)
‘I Don’t Know What I’ve Got Myself in For’ is a catchy upbeat folk-rock/alt-country song, which neatly sums up the ‘Some Days’ album. A song about venturing into the great unknown and questioning everything life throws at you, the lyrics are sure to strike a chord with most people who endured the struggles of 2020. With a subtle blend of the best of Corey’s low and high vocal registers, and a potent dose of lapsteel slide guitar and driving bass lines, this track is a bittersweet feel-good anthem for the times.

Fireball (released 14th July 2020)
‘Fireball’ is an alt-country/rock juggernaut that just keeps building and building, until the catchy chorus explodes and warms the heart of the listener. This feel-good track is bursting at the seams with memorable hooks, compounded by vivid storytelling and soaring melodies. The 2nd single from Corey Legge’s forthcoming 2nd album ‘Some Days’, ‘Fireball’ paints a compelling picture of young love and hope. ‘Some Days’ is an emotional alt-country tear-jerker. The heartfelt lyrics tell the story of a young man growing up in a small town, who questions his sense of self-worth and direction in life. With a strong focus on the importance of family and community, this timeless message is brought to life through soaring vocal melodies and swirling pedal steel. This track showcases Corey’s diversity as a singer, with sweetly sung verses and belted chorus’ combining to powerful effect. This song was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Unsigned Only international songwriting competition (Nashville, Tennessee USA).

‘Last Night I Dreamt of You’ is the first single from Corey Legge’s forthcoming 2nd solo album ‘Some Days’.
